So I was watching the new Star Trek movie, and my recent post about combining Japanese concepts and culture with American TV shows started kicking up something relating to Star Trek. Since I had JUST seen the movie, I pondered: What would it be like t if he ships in Star Trek turned into a giant robots and fought each other. Thus was born the concept of “Star Mech”, which developed a bit more over the next few days.
It would be pretty amusing. A Borg Cube transforming into a robot. Captain Kirk arrives in to the Enterprise, and it transforms into another kickass giant robot. Some “Borg Beams” are shot, and Kirk orders the “Phaser Fists” be energized. Some taunting by a Borg Commander, and the Enterprise then unveils it’s biggest weapon: The Photon Swordpedo: A glowing sword that can be shot off at the enemy, impaling them before it explodes.
Hell, we can ever go Sentai (or for those of you unfamiliar, Power Rangers) with the idea. We have three/four colors of uniform: Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue. The main officers who star in the series could push on the Starfleet Pins that they use for comms, shout out a nifty catchphrase, and then “morph” into an awesome uniform. Imagine Spock morphing into a Power Ranger/Sentai, and his helmet having the outline of Vulcan ears on the outside. Pretty amusing to think about.
Going further, as the series progresses, we could have various powerups. Various craft can merge to form larger mechs (see Voltron or Sentai/Power Rangers for small mechs combining to form a larger mech). It would be awesome. The Enterprise combining with Deep Space Nine to form an Ubermech which can fight off the combined form of 3 Borg Cubes and a Romular Warbird?
I’m sure that there is so much more to consider, and I may continue on with the idea at a later time, but I’ll let you guys chew on this much for now. Any further ideas or extrapolations that you come up with, there is a comment form that you can use to post replies.
